Summer 2010 Part II

I have not been good at keeping up the commentary on this trip. This is being written three days after the fact. Unlike our other trips, this one is more about relaxing with sightseeing being secondary. On previous trips, we were doing more traveling and less remaining stationary at the RV Parks. While we love the travel and the adventure of going places we have not been, we need to occasionally just relax and that is just what we are going to do. I hope those following us are not too disappointed that we are not posting many pictures and more exiting commentary.

We got a casual start this morning heading out about 9:15 am, much later than our usual hurried morning departures. We had less than 300 miles to cover, so what is the hurry. Most of the routing software I have and my GPS suggested a route that would take us back to NY-17/I-86 back to Binghamton and then I-88 diagonally across to Albany where we would pick up the Northway (I-87) to Lake George. We opted for a slightly different route that took us north on NY-14 to Geneva where we picked up the NY State Thruway (I-90) to Albany and I-87. I chose that route because Susie had never been on the stretch of Thruway we were going to cover and because it took us through the historic and scenic Mohawk River Valley. The old Erie Canal and its modern day successor parallel the Thruway for a good part of today's run. At one point you can see one of the old locks alongside the highway with no water anywhere in sight. The route took us past Auburn, Syracuse and Utica to Albany. Once we got on the Northway in Albany, the route takes us past Saratoga and Glens Falls to Lake George and the Lake George Escape RV Park.

It took us a few minutes longer than usual to get into our assigned spot. Because of the length of the trailer (37.5 ft) I usually request a pull through site, none of which were available when we made the reservations. This is a back in site and because of the trees on one side of the entrance to the site, backing the trailer into the desired position was a little more difficult then I would have preferred. The site is barely long enough to contain the trailer. Nonetheless, it is a nice site because the trees around the back of the site give us a degree of privacy even when the shades are open.

All in all an uneventful Friday the Thirteenth... but who was worried about that?
